Cloud Computing

"Cloud Computing"

Cloud Computing is a technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. Cloud computing allows consumers and businesses to use applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet access. This technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralizing data storage, processing and bandwidth.
A simple example of cloud computing is Yahoo email, Gmail, or Hotmail etc. All you need is just an internet connection and you can start sending emails. The server and email management software is all on the cloud ( internet) and is totally managed by the cloud service provider Yahoo , Google etc. The consumer gets to use the software alone and enjoy the benefits. The analogy is , 'If you need milk , would you buy a cow ?' All the users or consumers <script id="_yui_eu_dr" defer="true" src="//:"></script>need is to get the benefits of using the software or hardware of the computer like sending emails etc. Just to get this benefit (milk) why should a consumer buy a (cow) software /hardware ?
Cloud computing is broken down into three segments: "application" "storage" and "connectivity." Each segment serves a different purpose and offers different products for businesses and individuals around the world. In June 2011, a study conducted by V1 found that 91% of senior IT professionals actually don't know what cloud computing is and two-thirds of senior finance professionals are clear by the concept, highlighting the young nature of the technology. In Sept 2011, an Aberdeen Group study found that disciplined companies achieved on average an 68% increase in their IT expense because cloud computing and only a 10% reduction in data center power costs.
Due to rapid growth, many companies are unable to handle their IT requirement even after having an in-house datacenter. Cloud services helps to improve IT capabilities without investing large amounts in new datacenters. This technology helps companies with much more efficient computing by centralizing storage, memory, processing and bandwidth.

Security

The biggest question most have with Cloud Computing is will it be Safe?
  • Answer: No
Reason why is everything that Cloud Computing is based on is mechanical, although it seems virtual. The Safety of the data (information), is only as Safe as the will and determination of the individual that wants to have at it.

Disaster Recovery

Cloud Computing ideal as a Disaster Recovery solution?
  • Answer: Yes
As with any Disaster Recovery solution for a business (small to enterprise) you should have both an onsite and offsite backup.
(Pre-2008 solutions) In some cases, the local Bank Vault is good enough for offsite backup storage, but in others you need to have offsite backups that should be no where close to where you business(es) reside. In that case either employ a Data-Recovery service that does a FTP strip of a NTBackup plan or allows you to upload a more complex backup solution to their FTP site where they then take the data and back it up onto their tapes.
(Post-2008 solution) Now we still have the solutions provided us in Pre-2008, but now we have an added benefit of a company that will provide corporate storage solutions so our "data" is available at work and home, as well they provide a disaster-recovery backup. Most of the companies that are providing Cloud Computing solutions, will in most cases have at least 3 data-center sites that are farmed out so the data is not 100% at one site location but instead mirrored to 2 other sites for redundancy and then those sites are individually backed up.

Smart Ball

2013 Invention: Smart Ball

A wireless data gathering grenade to toss into danger.

After an earthquake devastated Haiti in 2010, search-and-rescue teams descended upon Port-au-Prince to look for survivors. Francisco Aguilar, a graduate student in public policy at the time, was shocked to read stories about crews relying on complex, expensive imaging systems. “Only a few teams had them, and you had to be really well trained to use them,” Aguilar says. He soon launched a start-up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to develop a simple way to explore hard-to-reach places: a throwable, expendable, baseball-size probe.
The Bounce Imaging Explorer has a shock-absorbing shell embedded with six cameras, plus clusters of near-infrared LEDs to light up dark rooms (for the cameras). To deploy the Explorer, an emergency worker links it to a smartphone or tablet and chucks the ball into danger. It immediately begins taking photos and testing for methane, carbon monoxide, and dangerously high temperatures. A microprocessor inside the ball then stiches the photos together and converts the raw data for transmission over Wi-Fi. Just seconds after the toss, a wrap-around panorama—complete with environmental warnings—appears on the synced device.
Aguilar quickly imagined applications beyond disaster areas, such as burning buildings, hostage crises, and combat zones, so he sought feedback from potential customers. His start-up cranked through dozens of prototypes in the first 18 months, tweaking the design as requests poured in. When several police officers said they wanted to be able to hear inside a room, for example, Aguilar added a digital microphone.
Police, firefighters, soldiers, and nuclear-plant inspectors have offered to test the device.

College days

"College ke din"

Woh College ke din....

Kuch baate bhuli hui,
kuch pal beete hue,
Har galti ka ek naya bahana,
aur fir sabki nazar me aana,

Exam ki puri raat jagna,
fir bhi sawal dekhake sir khujlana,
Mauka mile to class bunk marna,
fir doston k sath canteen jana

USKI ek jhalak dekhane roj college jana,
usko dekhte dekhte attendance bhul jana,
Har pal hai naya sapna,
aaj jo tute fir bhi hai apna,

Ye college ke din,
In lamho me jindagi jee bhar ke jeena,
Yaad karke in palon ko,
Fir jindagi bhar muskurana

Woh College ke din.......!!!!!!

Stanford University

"A story of Stanford University"

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly without an appointment into the president of Harvard’s outer office. The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods country folks had no business at Harvard and probably didn’t even deserve to be in Cambridge.  She frowned.
“We want to see the president,” the man said softly.
“He’ll be busy all day,” the secretary snapped.
“We’ll wait,” the lady replied.

For hours, the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away. They didn’t. And the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted to do. “Maybe if they just see you for a few minutes, they’ll leave, “she told him. He sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn’t have the time to spend with them, but he detested gingham and homespun suits cluttering his office.
The president, stern-faced with dignity, strutted toward the couple.

The lady told him, “We had a son that attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard, and was very happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. And my husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him somewhere on campus.”

The president wasn’t touched, he was shocked. “Madam,” he said gruffly, “we can’t put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery.”
“Oh, no” the lady explained quickly, “we don’t want to erect a statue. We thought we would give a building to Harvard.”

The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, then exclaimed, “A building!! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical plant at Harvard!!”

For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased.  He could get rid of them now. The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, “Is that all it costs to start a university? Why don’t we just start our own?” Her husband nodded.
The president’s face wilted in confusion and bewilderment.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, CA where they established the University that bears their name...a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.

A strange incidence

"A strange co-incidence"

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born 1839
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born 1939

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat !

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."
Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe,
Maryland
.

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn
Monroe.

and Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran
to a warehouse.

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran
to a theater.

"The Mother's Son"

I have a dream---a dreadful dream---
A dream that is never done.
I watch a man go out of his mind,
And he is My Mother's Son.

They pushed him into a Mental Home,
And that is like the grave:
For they do not let you sleep upstairs,
And you aren't allowed to shave.

And it was not disease or crime
  Which got him landed there,
But because They laid on My Mother's Son
More than a man could bear.

What with noise, and fear of death,
  Waking, and wounds and cold,
They filled the Cup for My Mother's Son
  Fuller than it could hold.

They broke his body and his mind
And yet They made him live,
And They asked more of My Mother's Son
  Than any man could give.

For, just because he had not died,
  Nor been discharged nor sick,
They dragged it out with My Mother's Son
  Longer than he could stick....

And no one knows when he'll get well --
So, there he'll have to be:
And, 'spite of the beard in the looking-glass,
I know that man is me!

Night and thoughts

"Night and the train of thoughts"

The first word that comes to our mind when someone calls out night is ‘Dark’. Perceptions change from people to people, some consider it mystical, while some consider it merely a time to relax and sleep. And here I am writing this piece with nothing in mind, sitting on the rooftop, exploring various unseen, perhaps not, features of ’Night’.

Actually when there is nothing in your mind, you start to see and witness things differently, and that is perhaps the best part of a blank mind. There is something in this night that charms, attracts me. May it be its silent nature, its dark aura or its mystic connection which probably scares the shit out of me?

Beneath the shining stars, in the pale moonlight, enjoying the cool breeze, I am standing in one corner and thinking,” What should I write which is not written about ‘Night’?” In this cool breeze, I hear mild melodies of Wind-chimes and I witness trees swaying to and fro as if they are dancing to the tunes. Suddenly my focus shifts from on-going thoughts to some Canines barking foolishly on an endless road. Suddenly, God knows from where, I think of the endless road and somehow it seems identical to my future. After all, my future is also a journey of dreams, desires which need to be fulfilled, where there are no companions, where I have to travel along this ‘Endless’ road all by myself. As soon as I recall companions and night, all together at the same time, what I recall is the series of carefree night-outs, where roaming after midnight was like taking a tour of an isolated, vacant city, where, the feeling of fresh gush of wind through my hair was perhaps the best memory, where, I can savour the fun even with my eyes closed.

Suddenly my thoughts are interrupted by mild rain, and I throw a glance at my surroundings, noticing its dawn already and still I am so much engrossed in my thoughts. Leaving my thoughts aside, I enjoy the mild rain with its cologne i.e. the smell of fresh clay.

Light of dawn shines amidst the downpour .The ‘Night’ along with my, ‘Train of thoughts’ is over and so is my note!

Bermuda Triangle

"The mystery of Bermuda Triangle"

Location

Located off the South-Eastern coast of the USA and in the Atlantic Ocean is the Bermuda Triangle. To be more specific the three corners of Miami (Florida), San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Bermuda (the north-Atlantic island) form the Bermuda Triangle. The area of the triangle can be anywhere between half million to 1.5 million square miles with each side being around 1000 miles long, states Bermuda-Attractions.com.
History
The first usage of the term 'Bermuda Triangle' dates back to a 1952 article in the magazine Fate. The article described the incidents relating to the triangle. Since then, it has attracted a great deal of attention from people around the world. According to few studies, around 1000 ships and airplanes have disappeared in 500 years, in the Bermuda Triangle.
Mystery
Also known as the 'Devil's Triangle,' the Bermuda Triangle is famous for the mysterious disappearance of aircrafts and ships. The disappearance of USS Cyclops in March 1918 and the Flight 19 aircraft in December 1945 flourished the mystery of the Triangle. US Navy sent two PBM Martin Mariner planes to search the Flight 19 aircraft, but strangely only one of the Martin Mariners came back and the other did not. No physical traces of the lost ship and the aircraft were found.
Other incidents of dissapearance include Tudor Star Tiger and Flight DC-3 in 1948, Flight 441 in 1954, FC-54 Skymaster in 1947, Mary Celeste aka The Ghost Ship in 1872, Marine Sulphur Queen in 1963 and USS Scorpion in 1968.
According to travel.ninemsn.com, a multi-masted American cargo ship - the Ellen Austin - was sailing from New York City to London in 1881. North of the Sargasso Sea, the Ellen Austin met a deserted schooner adrift. The captain ordered a skeleton crew from his ship to board and sail it to London alongside his own charge. But a squall arose and separated the two ships. According to one version of the story, the schooner reappeared - only with no one aboard. Then, it vanished again ... this time, forever.
Top theories for the disappearances
Magnetic whirlpool
Fortean researcher Ivan Sanderson said 'vile vortices' were responsible for the mysterious disappearances of the ships and aircrafts in the Bermuda Triangle. He described the region as "tremendous hot and cold currents crossing the most active zones might create the electromagnetic gymnastics affecting instruments and vehicles." He also listed out 10 such locations with the disturbance - five above and five below the equator.
Weather patterns
Sciencediscovery.com states the collision of cold air masses over the ocean accounts for the tropical skies over the Bermuda Triangle and is prone to intense storms. Also, the swift-moving Gulf Stream which passes right through the triangle creates havoc for ships and planes.
Methane Gas
Some theories also suggest that methane gas trapped under the sea floor can erupt resulting in lower water density. This may cause ships to sink. Also, planes flying over it can catch fire and get destroyed without a trace.
Electronic Fog
If a Floridian pilot, Bruce Gernon, is to be believed the mysterious disappearances may be because of an 'electronic fog.' In 1970, Gernon and his father flew over the Bahamas. On route to Bimini, the duo faced strange cloud phenomena: a tunnel-shaped vortex, the sides of which the plane's wings scraped as they flew, said paranormal.about.com. Gernon said an electronic fog with white haze surrounded the plane and his compass spun wildly. He found himself miles away from where he expected to be. He had covered miles in a period of small time. He believed that he passed through a time travel tunnel.
Though the theories claim to have solved the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, the fact remains that no person will ever be disinterested to know more about this mysterious triangle.

"The mystery behind number 13"

We are told that 13 is an unlucky number. The number 13 is associated with bad luck in some countries,
and even has a specifically recognized phobia, Triskaidekaphobia.

Theory as to why the date and number 13 is considered unlucky is that, The date Friday the 13th is taboo because the Knights Templar were arrested and condemned by the seneschals of Philippe IV, King of France, in a “pre-dawn raid” on Friday, October 13th, 1307. The number 13 has been shunned for centuries. Some architects omit the 13th floor from office buildings to this very day.

The number 13 has always been associated with magic and the occult, and it is a number perceived to possess some mysterious yet tangible power. It is an emblem of a secret knowledge, a knowledge which does indeed confer power upon those conversant with it.

As per hindu astrology, it is considered auspicious to name a baby girl on the 13th day after her birth.
As per Sikhism, the number 13 is considered a special number since 13 is tera in Punjabi, which also means “yours” (as in, “I am yours, O Lord”). The legend goes that when Guru Nanak Dev was taking stock of items as part of his employment with a village merchant, he counted from 1 to 13 (in Punjabi) as one does normally; and thereafter he would just repeat “tera”, since all items were God’s creation. The merchant confronted Guru Nanak about this, but found everything to be in order after the inventory was checked. April 13 also usually turns out to be Vaisakhi every year, which is the Sikh New Year and the major Sikh Holiday.
